" Laminate Flooring for Entire Home I’ve had about 3 contractors bail out on this job because of the complexity of the corners, angles, and the just overall shape of the home. I was then referred by a friend Jodi couple of floors below mine to use Alliance. I went to their shop, found the laminate flooring I wanted, and they recommended me to use the QuietMax underlay which meets my building code. They were even professional enough to have this form in which they will warrant your floors if the proper procedures were done. 1. Ripped up the carpet, then they measured temperature, and leveling. 2. Then used concrete or some sort of filling to fill up so that floor was straight and even. 3. They waited for it to dry for about 2-3 days, then started the laminate flooring. They finished in less than 2 days, let me inspect it, then cleaned up. It was flawless, I even stepped on every single area of the laminate flooring so that it doesn’t “squish” downwards and it was hard like hardwood floor which is exactly what I wanted. Although during this process, one of their workers scratched up my washer as they needed to move it out of the way (I take half the fault). I explained to the owner Lehel the situation, and his worker did admit it (which I appreciate the honesty a lot, you don’t get this often) and they were going to pay for it to get it fixed. Since they aren’t specialized in this, and don’t want to do a poor job in fixing the scratch, they asked me to hire someone and they will pay for it which Lehel sent me a cheque 3 business days later. So these guys are not only great workers, but honest business owners as well. They really do take care, and one of the most important thing is that they answer their phones. Even though I am probably a nightmare client, and call them like 5 times a day wondering about status, they were always patient with me and worked with me through this process. " Hardwood floor installation We have a 100-year-old home that had the original hardwood floors, which were in pretty bad shape. We researched a number of companies and visited several showrooms before settling on Alliance to replace our floors. Lehel and Susan spent hours answering our many questions, sent an installer to our home twice to give us advice before we entered into a contract with them, and allowed us to borrow wood samples to test in our home. We’re extremely pleased with the final product and with Alliance’s ability to do this work efficiently on short notice and in a short timeframe. Our only negative comment would be that Lehel and Susan hire contractors/subcontractors to do the work, and it seemed that this led to a number of miscommunications amongst the various players. Also, the crew’s clean-up job fell quite short of what we had hoped – the dust and dirt took hours to clean, and the installers left old pieces of trim and extra wood in various places around our house (closets, backyard). Having said that, we do feel that whenever concerns were raised with Lehel, he took steps to correct them. Overall, we’re pleased with Alliance and would recommend them for hardwood floor installation. "
" Hardwood floors and Stairs Given my lack of knowledge about hardwood floors, I was pretty apprehensive about the whole process of installing new hardwood in the upstairs and on the stairs of my new house. But both Susan and Lehel made me feel comfortable and at ease the moment I stepped in the door. You don’t feel like you’re dealing with a company. They feel like family. They do everything in their power to not only educate, but make sure that you’re comfortable with your choices. I priced a lot of flooring companies before coming to a decision and going with Alliance. While there were cheaper estimates out there, none of those companies could even come close to matching Alliance’s customer service. I was on a very tight deadline before I moved into my house and I needed everything in place before the big day. Lehel made sure his guys repaired my sub floor, installed my floors upstairs and finished the stairs in a total of five days. After everything was finished, he called not only once but three times to make sure I was satisfied with the job. When I pointed out one minor problem, he sent his guys over the next day to fix it. " Hardwood flooring and carpet installation Pre-installation: Dealing with Lehel and Susan was a breeze! They were professional, very knowledgeable, and displayed no pressure sales tactics as we were making our decisions, which was very much appreciated. Lehel is a pretty funny guy too! Installation: At the last minute and to accommodate the painter, Lehel demonstrated great flexibility and agreed to a change in the installation dates. There was an approx. 1-week delay in the completion of installation (i.e. baseboards, doors); however, once completed, the floors looked great including the carpeting. Post-installation: We uncovered a billing error, called Susan and she immediately corrected it without a hassle which was great. We were disappointed with an additional charge for the cutting of the doors; it was not included in the written contract which was our oversight, but we clearly remember it being discussed in the pre-installation. Couple of regrets: #1) Lehel had forewarned us about not getting the cement floors perfectly levelled; to save on cost, we opted to not get them done and regret it now. The hardwood flooring is already showing some gaps because of the uneven base. #2) Be sure to think long and hard about dark hardwood; it looks amazing when clean, but shows EVERYTHING and needs daily attention! " Bamboo Floor Installation My floors were a mess!!! I had engineered hardwood (floating) over an uneven concrete sub-floor and the hardwood would sink in many places when walked upon. After reading many Homestars reviews, one Saturday I decided to visit the Alliance showroom to get inspired and to find a solution. I received great service in the showroom and Lehel made an appointment to come at my earliest convenience to assess the floors. Once the contract was signed, his team came in, removed the existing floor, levelled the concrete, installed the floor and even put in an great pattern with in a contrasting wood on the floor. " Stain and Refinish hardwood floors I was introduced to Alliance Floor Source via Homestars and was impressed by their stellar rating. I contacted them for an estimate and received a very quick response from them. During the initial appointment, we were impressed by Lehel’s professionalism and enthusiasm for his work and thus, decided to hire this company to stain and refinish our existing hardwood floors as well as our staircase. The finished product (ebony stain with a matte finish) is perfect and I am extremely happy with their service. I am also impressed by Lehel’s professionalism and his desire to please his clients. He went out of his way to replace a handrail bracket (that was misplaced by a painting company I hired) and even assumed the cost. Unfortunately, a few months after the job was complete, I had an accident and damaged my floors. Some carpet cleaner was spilled on the hardwood floor and corroded the finish and part of the stain.=( I rehired Lehel’s company and they were able to repair the floor so that the blemished area blends seamlessly with the rest of the floor. I looked at Homestars for assistance and truly found the best flooring company that I have ever dealt with. Susan booked a repair for me within 2 days of speaking to her. " Carpet & Runner Installation I hired Alliance to install carpet for my second floor, as well as a runner for the stairs. Susan was extremely helpful during the selection process and was very patient in following up with all my questions. After the carpet was installed, I wasn’t completely satisfied with how it looked (the pattern was off). I initially thought it was an installation error, so a few months later, I contacted Alliance to complain. Lehel responded immediately and came over the next day to inspect the issue. I was impressed – even though I had let quite a few months pass by before I contacted Alliance (I got really busy), Lehel still treated my complaint with utmost concern and a sense of urgency, even though this project was already fully paid for and completed many months ago. It turned out to be a manufacturing defect, and he took care of the re-ordering and re-installation process from beginning to end. " Floor sanding, staining and engineered floor installation. We purchased a 3,600 sf condo which had old style parquet flooring and three bedrooms with carpeting on cement. Alliance sanded the parquet and tinted it to perfectly match the Espresso engineered flooring we had chosen for the bedrooms. We couldn’t have been happier with the look. In addition, we had a small A/C leak on the newly stained parquet and the repair they did is invisible. Would not hesitate to recommend them. "
" 2nd Floor & Stair Carpeting After we purchased a resale home one of our first pre-move-in projects was to re-carpet the entire 2nd floor and install a runner on the staircase. After reading many of the reviews on HomeStars we choose Alliance and are very happy we did. Lehel and Susan were very friendly, gave us great advice on the different products and a fair price. On short-notice Lehel was able rearrange his schedule to do all the measurements during one of our already arranged pre-move-in visits to the house, which saved us a subsequent visit, and Susan arranged the installation on the day we wanted. A few days after the 2nd floor installation Lehel came by to ensure we were happy with it. Unfortunately, the stairs needed a lot of work before the runner could be installed, but Alliance patiently waited for us and, since we were doing all the staining and painting ourselves, gave us advice. Within a couple of days of completing the staircase renovation one of their installers returned and installed the runner on our circular staircase. The new carpet looks great and we would strongly recommend them. "

On installation day, it turned out that Beaulieu had mixed in a roll of wrong carpet (same colour, lower quality) in their shipment; Lehel and Susan dealt with it professionally and got us proper replacements within a week. We had hoped to have laminate installed in the three remaining carpeted rooms on our arrival from Ottawa, before our furniture was delivered to the condominium. We had just two days to spare. We selected a company and on the morning that they were to install the contractor called to say that he had to go to the dentist and would try to come later. We lost all confidence in this company.
We were desperate and went on to the Internet to see if we could find someone who could get us out of a difficult situation. Fortunately we picked Alliance and asked Lehel if he could help. That same afternoon he had a worker come to measure the area.We understand that the supplier, who had the pattern that we wanted, had actually closed for the day and the worker insisted on having the store opened to meet our needs. The next day his contractor started and continued until the work was finished. The work was first class and we were in good shape to receive our furniture.

Though it took a couple of weeks to sort it out, the folks at Alliance (and our hardworking installer, Mohammed) soon made it right. Found Alliance flooring highly recommended on homestars and redflagdeals forums. I called around 5 places and the best price quoted and most knowledgable replies were from Alliance.
Lehel showed up on time to do my quote and was very detailed in his estimates and measurements. On the day of the refinishing work, Lazlo was also very friendly and showed me all options to re-staining the floor. Floors were done beautifully and on time as promised. My friend who is a part-time contractor even commented on how nice the floor looked (he offered to do it cheaper but that was after I had found Lehel and put a deposit down).
I was also able to save a bit of money too, since I didn’t use any stain and went with a natural look and did varnish only. They were nice enough to credit me some money back as well.
Only draw back is they can’t take credit card over phone (must physically bring card into their store) but at least you can see some of the samples and paint stains. I would definitely use them again or recommend my friends to them.
PS – I realized that Lazlo had put 3 large garbage bags full of sawdust and some large tins of chemicals. But when the garbage guys came around, they literally ripped open each garbage bag to take a look and decided not to take any of it away. I’ll have to call to remind Lehel that they should be taking away that garbage as well, rather than leaving it to the customer to dispose of, since the City of Toronto now does not take away renovation garbage. "

Alliance is great for floors – both re-finishing and the laying new floors. The Alliance team was punctual and courteous and completed the job in a very tight timeline. Most of all, Lehel and Susan were friendly and easy to deal with – no slick sales pressure at all.
The areas that Alliance is less strong are the ‘extra’ work we had done (including installing new baseboards throughout the house, re-finishing some wood edging / banisters and clean up). This work was not up to the standard of their floors. That said, Lehel did get bring his people out again to try to undertake the repairs.
All in all, if you want friendly service and beautiful floors we would recommend Alliance. If additional work is required beyond the excellent flooring skills, use a bit of caution. "

" I hightly recommend Alliance Floor Services. I did a blind search for hardwood installers off the internet and the only real due diligence I did was to speak with the firms over the phone. I ending up selecting Alliance and couldn’t be happier. They changed their schedule to squeeze me into my tight schedule. The installer laid about 350sqft across 2 hallways, a kitchen and a seating area in about 14 hours. (My buddy is a general contractor and estimated double the cost and time.) After contacting several flooring companies, a representative from Alliance Floor Source came to our home to look at the job and give us a quote. He was professional and knowledgeable. He helped us to choose the type of wood, and gave us advice on the different brands.
We were essentially re-flooring our entire house. With our home being over 90 years old, there were some tricky spots, but the installer was not phased. He did a quick and efficient job, and worked with the troubled spots beautifully.

We had our flooring done in August. I was very excited about the project because Lehel came across as very knowledgable when he did the estimate. The quote was professional looking and the price was reasonable. The product was delivered as promised and I was assured that the job would take 3-4 days and would therefore be done by the end of the next week. Unfortunately, the work ended up dragging for over 2 weeks because insufficient materials had been ordered. My main concern with the service is that they took our key and have not yet returned it. I have been assured several times over the phone by Susan that the key has not been lost and that I will get it back shortly, but more than a month has passed and I still do not have my key. Also, a cracked piece of trim broke off of our stairs and when I called to report it, I was told by Lehel that someone would call me and come out in the next couple of days. This was three weeks ago. I am not confident that I will be able to receive any after installation service from this company. In fact, I was asked to sign for the balance of my payment by Susan before the job was completed but I refused. I am now very glad that I did not trust them to finish the work after they had been paid. The work is satisfactory overall although I think they should have installed the stairs before the flooring so that the flooring would not have gotten chipped and spots of glue on it.
Review update November 16th, 2007. Alliance got in touch with us and fixed the few problems we were having. They also reimbursed us for most of the cost of rekeying our locks. We are happy with our flooring. "

I am quite picky and particular when it comes to my private home and was quite nervous about who would do my floors! Alliance Flooring was chosen after a few interviews I had with other companies and individuals. They came out head and shoulders above the rest.
Not only did they make me feel confident that they could do the job, but had a lot of selection in their store and they spent an hour with me explaining all the different options. I was allowed to keep 4 samples in my condo for a few days as I had a hard time deciding between a few types of wood and colours.
I had an extremely busy schedule, as I was traveling a lot and the week I booked them was between my Calgary and Vancouver trip so they had literally a week window to work with me before I had to be off on another trip. When he came over for the quote he measured everything and told me it would take them a day maximum 2 days to do my job which amazed me as others said anywhere from 2-4 days! So in Calgary I called and booked them to go ahead, it just felt right!
There were 2 guys that did the job and they were focused, friendly and professional. The first day they were almost done, the next day they finished in a couple of hours.
They took out all the carpet, under pad and nails from 3 rooms, installed floors including 2 large closets, put in corner round, took out and put back a closet sliding door, cleaned up (sweeping) and left me with floor cleaning kit as a thank you! Fantastic!! "
